True Colors

Tennessee Gov. Bredeson (Dem.) was comfortably reelected by an overwhelming majority of votes by moderate republicans. It is refreshing that he is showing his true socialist colors. Early in Jan. '07 he has announced that he would like to see a marked increase in taxes on cigarettes, gasoline, and diesel fuel. Also, mentioned was making some TN roads toll roads, and spending the states lottery reserve of $300 million. Paraphrasing, he stated that a reserve of $300 million was 'a bit much'. For an individual, maybe, but for a state with the population of Tennessee's, a "savings account" of that size would be a good idea for a 'rainy day'. As far as the Gov.'s reasoning for raising taxes, that the dollar doesn't go as far as it did, don't spend more than you have and you won't have to worry about it. Taxpayers are not able to raise their income by simply signing a law to increase their income, in the financial state of the country it is not time for any tax increase.
