Tax Waste

If our government has enough of our tax money to send $50 billion to Africa for AIDS and $30 billion to the UN for global poverty, why do our school children have to conduct bake sales, sell candy and coupon books, and host other forms of fundraising to supply their needs for education? School trips, athletic programs and equipment, band instruments and trips and community service programs are all dependent on the generosity of citizens who watch their government take more and more of the hard earned income of the working class to squander on other countries and on wasteful projects like bridges and roads to nowhere. Taxing corporations is pointless because they pass the taxes along to consumers as increases in prices for their goods and services. Restricting government spending and international "generosity" and constricting taxes would go further to help our country and our economy than any stimulus package yet proposed.

Liberator Pistol

For those who have not prepared for what appears to be on the horizon, I have included the following article on the FP 45 Liberator pistol. The moral is, get what you can, while you can, and be prepared to put it to best use.
In 1942 the United States Office of Strategic Services (OSS) asked the Guide Lamp division of General Motors, Detroit, to design a cheap, simple handgun which could be produced in large numbers.
Although General Motors knew little about firearms, it knew a great deal about the mass-production of small metal items using the most modern methods. Within about three months it had produced about one million of the crude pistols. 300 workers produced a pistol with 23 parts every 7 seconds, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This is the only pistol that could be made faster than it could be loaded, which took about 10 seconds. The production cost was $2.10 each.

Often referred to as the "Woolworth Gun", the Liberator Pistol's actual name was the "Flare Projector" Caliber .45 (FP-45). A single-shot pistol, the Liberator was designed to be scattered about World War II occupied Europe to be used by Resistance groups as disposable assassination weapons or to enable resisters to kill a German soldier and then take his weapon.


The pistol was packed in a paraffin-coated cardboard box with ten rounds of .45 ACP ammunition that could subsequently be stored in the gun's butt, accessable through a sliding trap at the base. Also included was a wooden stick for extracting the spent case and a sheet of comic-strip type operating instructions, using no words. The package was air-dropped where required.

To load the pistol it was necessary first to pull back the cocking piece and turn it 90 degrees counter-clockwise. The breech was covered by a vertically sliding shutter with a hole for the striker, and was opened by pulling upwards on the backsight. When this was done, a .45 ACP cartridge was inserted, the shutter was pushed down, and the cocking piece was returned to its original position. The pistol was now ready to fire. There was, of course, no safety catch, although a pin on the upper part of the cocking piece passed through a hole in the backsight, presumably to ensure that the shutter did not open and foul the striker. Once a shot had been fired, the entire loading process had to be repeated.

Blue Book lists the Liberator's value in the US at $450 to $1000 depending upon condition.

George Washington's Farewell Address

If you have never read George Washington's Farewell Address, I encourage you to do so now. The brilliance of the man in foreseeing the threats to our liberty that we are now experiencing and have been experiencing for the past 75 years is unbelieveable.

FRIENDS AND FELLOW-CITIZENS:

1 The period for a new election of a citizen, to administer the executive government of the United States, being not far distant, and the time actually arrived, when your thoughts must be employed designating the person, who is to be clothed with that important trust, it appears to me proper, especially as it may conduce to a more distinct expression of the public voice, that I should now apprize you of the resolution I have formed, to decline being considered among the number of those out of whom a choice is to be made.

2 I beg you at the same time to do me the justice to be assured that this resolution has not been taken without a strict regard to all the considerations appertaining to the relation which binds a dutiful citizen to his country; and that in withdrawing the tender of service, which silence in my situation might imply, I am influenced by no diminution of zeal for your future interest, no deficiency of grateful respect for your past kindness, but am supported by a full conviction that the step is compatible with both.

3 The acceptance of, and continuance hitherto in, the office to which your suffrages have twice called me, have been a uniform sacrifice of inclination to the opinion of duty, and to a deference for what appeared to be your desire. I constantly hoped, that it would have been much earlier in my power, consistently with motives, which I was not at liberty to disregard, to return to that retirement, from which I had been reluctantly drawn. The strength of my inclination to do this, previous to the last election, had even led to the preparation of an address to declare it to you; but mature reflection on the then perplexed and critical posture of our affairs with foreign nations, and the unanimous advice of persons entitled to my confidence impelled me to abandon the idea.

4 I rejoice, that the state of your concerns, external as well as internal, no longer renders the pursuit of inclination incompatible with the sentiment of duty, or propriety; and am persuaded, whatever partiality may be retained for my services, that, in the present circumstances of our country, you will not disapprove my determination to retire.

5 The impressions, with which I first undertook the arduous trust, were explained on the proper occasion. In the discharge of this trust, I will only say, that I have, with good intentions, contributed towards the organization and administration of the government the best exertions of which a very fallible judgment was capable. Not unconscious, in the outset, of the inferiority of my qualifications, experience in my own eyes, perhaps still more in the eyes of others, has strengthened the motives to diffidence of myself; and every day the increasing weight of years admonishes me more and more, that the shade of retirement is as necessary to me as it will be welcome. Satisfied, that, if any circumstances have given peculiar value to my services, they were temporary, I have the consolation to believe, that, while choice and prudence invite me to quit the political scene, patriotism does not forbid it.

6 In looking forward to the moment, which is intended to terminate the career of my public life, my feelings do not permit me to suspend the deep acknowledgment of that debt of gratitude, which I owe to my beloved country for the many honors it has conferred upon me; still more for the steadfast confidence with which it has supported me; and for the opportunities I have thence enjoyed of manifesting my inviolable attachment, by services faithful and persevering, though in usefulness unequal to my zeal. If benefits have resulted to our country from these services, let it always be remembered to your praise, and as an instructive example in our annals, that under circumstances in which the passions, agitated in every direction, were liable to mislead, amidst appearances sometimes dubious, vicissitudes of fortune often discouraging, in situations in which not unfrequently want of success has countenanced the spirit of criticism, the constancy of your support was the essential prop of the efforts, and a guarantee of the plans by which they were effected. Profoundly penetrated with this idea, I shall carry it with me to my grave, as a strong incitement to unceasing vows that Heaven may continue to you the choicest tokens of its beneficence; that your union and brotherly affection may be perpetual; that the free constitution, which is the work of your hands, may be sacredly maintained; that its administration in every department may be stamped with wisdom and virtue; than, in fine, the happiness of the people of these States, under the auspices of liberty, may be made complete, by so careful a preservation and so prudent a use of this blessing, as will acquire to them the glory of recommending it to the applause, the affection, and adoption of every nation, which is yet a stranger to it.

7 Here, perhaps I ought to stop. But a solicitude for your welfare which cannot end but with my life, and the apprehension of danger, natural to that solicitude, urge me, on an occasion like the present, to offer to your solemn contemplation, and to recommend to your frequent review, some sentiments which are the result of much reflection, of no inconsiderable observation, and which appear to me all-important to the permanency of your felicity as a people. These will be offered to you with the more freedom, as you can only see in them the disinterested warnings of a parting friend, who can possibly have no personal motive to bias his counsel. Nor can I forget, as an encouragement to it, your indulgent reception of my sentiments on a former and not dissimilar occasion.

8 Interwoven as is the love of liberty with every ligament of your hearts, no recommendation of mine is necessary to fortify or confirm the attachment.

9 The unity of Government, which constitutes you one people, is also now dear to you. It is justly so; for it is a main pillar in the edifice of your real independence, the support of your tranquillity at home, your peace abroad; of your safety; of your prosperity; of that very Liberty, which you so highly prize. But as it is easy to foresee, that, from different causes and from different quarters, much pains will be taken, many artifices employed, to weaken in your minds the conviction of this truth; as this is the point in your political fortress against which the batteries of internal and external enemies will be most constantly and actively (though often covertly and insidiously) directed, it is of infinite moment, that you should properly estimate the immense value of your national Union to your collective and individual happiness; that you should cherish a cordial, habitual, and immovable attachment to it; accustoming yourselves to think and speak of it as of the Palladium of your political safety and prosperity; watching for its preservation with jealous anxiety; discountenancing whatever may suggest even a suspicion, that it can in any event be abandoned; and indignantly frowning upon the first dawning of every attempt to alienate any portion of our country from the rest, or to enfeeble the sacred ties which now link together the various parts.

10 For this you have every inducement of sympathy and interest. Citizens, by birth or choice, of a common country, that country has a right to concentrate your affections. The name of american, which belongs to you, in your national capacity, must always exalt the just pride of Patriotism, more than any appellation derived from local discriminations. With slight shades of difference, you have the same religion, manners, habits, and political principles. You have in a common cause fought and triumphed together; the Independence and Liberty you possess are the work of joint counsels, and joint efforts, of common dangers, sufferings, and successes.

11 But these considerations, however powerfully they address themselves to your sensibility, are greatly outweighed by those, which apply more immediately to your interest. Here every portion of our country finds the most commanding motives for carefully guarding and preserving the Union of the whole.


12 The North, in an unrestrained intercourse with the South, protected by the equal laws of a common government, finds, in the productions of the latter, great additional resources of maritime and commercial enterprise and precious materials of manufacturing industry. The South, in the same intercourse, benefiting by the agency of the North, sees its agriculture grow and its commerce expand. Turning partly into its own channels the seamen of the North, it finds its particular navigation invigorated; and, while it contributes, in different ways, to nourish and increase the general mass of the national navigation, it looks forward to the protection of a maritime strength, to which itself is unequally adapted. The East, in a like intercourse with the West, already finds, and in the progressive improvement of interior communications by land and water, will more and more find, a valuable vent for the commodities which it brings from abroad, or manufactures at home. The West derives from the East supplies requisite to its growth and comfort, and, what is perhaps of still greater consequence, it must of necessity owe the secure enjoyment of indispensable outlets for its own productions to the weight, influence, and the future maritime strength of the Atlantic side of the Union, directed by an indissoluble community of interest as one nation. Any other tenure by which the West can hold this essential advantage, whether derived from its own separate strength, or from an apostate and unnatural connexion with any foreign power, must be intrinsically precarious.

13 While, then, every part of our country thus feels an immediate and particular interest in Union, all the parts combined cannot fail to find in the united mass of means and efforts greater strength, greater resource, proportionably greater security from external danger, a less frequent interruption of their peace by foreign nations; and, what is of inestimable value, they must derive from Union an exemption from those broils and wars between themselves, which so frequently afflict neighbouring countries not tied together by the same governments, which their own rivalships alone would be sufficient to produce, but which opposite foreign alliances, attachments, and intrigues would stimulate and embitter. Hence, likewise, they will avoid the necessity of those overgrown military establishments, which, under any form of government, are inauspicious to liberty, and which are to be regarded as particularly hostile to Republican Liberty. In this sense it is, that your Union ought to be considered as a main prop of your liberty, and that the love of the one ought to endear to you the preservation of the other.

14 These considerations speak a persuasive language to every reflecting and virtuous mind, and exhibit the continuance of the union as a primary object of Patriotic desire. Is there a doubt, whether a common government can embrace so large a sphere? Let experience solve it. To listen to mere speculation in such a case were criminal. We are authorized to hope, that a proper organization of the whole, with the auxiliary agency of governments for the respective subdivisions, will afford a happy issue to the experiment. It is well worth a fair and full experiment. With such powerful and obvious motives to Union, affecting all parts of our country, while experience shall not have demonstrated its impracticability, there will always be reason to distrust the patriotism of those, who in any quarter may endeavour to weaken its bands.

15 In contemplating the causes, which may disturb our Union, it occurs as matter of serious concern, that any ground should have been furnished for characterizing parties by Geographical discriminations, Northern and Southern, Atlantic and Western; whence designing men may endeavour to excite a belief, that there is a real difference of local interests and views. One of the expedients of party to acquire influence, within particular districts, is to misrepresent the opinions and aims of other districts. You cannot shield yourselves too much against the jealousies and heart-burnings, which spring from these misrepresentations; they tend to render alien to each other those, who ought to be bound together by fraternal affection. The inhabitants of our western country have lately had a useful lesson on this head; they have seen, in the negotiation by the Executive, and in the unanimous ratification by the Senate, of the treaty with Spain, and in the universal satisfaction at that event, throughout the United States, a decisive proof how unfounded were the suspicions propagated among them of a policy in the General Government and in the Atlantic States unfriendly to their interests in regard to the mississippi; they have been witnesses to the formation of two treaties, that with Great Britain, and that with Spain, which secure to them every thing they could desire, in respect to our foreign relations, towards confirming their prosperity. Will it not be their wisdom to rely for the preservation of these advantages on the union by which they were procured? Will they not henceforth be deaf to those advisers, if such there are, who would sever them from their brethren, and connect them with aliens?

16 To the efficacy and permanency of your Union, a Government for the whole is indispensable. No alliances, however strict, between the parts can be an adequate substitute; they must inevitably experience the infractions and interruptions, which all alliances in all times have experienced. Sensible of this momentous truth, you have improved upon your first essay, by the adoption of a Constitution of Government better calculated than your former for an intimate Union, and for the efficacious management of your common concerns. This Government, the offspring of our own choice, uninfluenced and unawed, adopted upon full investigation and mature deliberation, completely free in its principles, in the distribution of its powers, uniting security with energy, and containing within itself a provision for its own amendment, has a just claim to your confidence and your support. Respect for its authority, compliance with its laws, acquiescence in its measures, are duties enjoined by the fundamental maxims of true Liberty. The basis of our political systems is the right of the people to make and to alter their Constitutions of Government. But the Constitution which at any time exists, till changed by an explicit and authentic act of the whole people, is sacredly obligatory upon all. The very idea of the power and the right of the people to establish Government presupposes the duty of every individual to obey the established Government.

17 All obstructions to the execution of the Laws, all combinations and associations, under whatever plausible character, with the real design to direct, control, counteract, or awe the regular deliberation and action of the constituted authorities, are destructive of this fundamental principle, and of fatal tendency. They serve to organize faction, to give it an artificial and extraordinary force; to put, in the place of the delegated will of the nation, the will of a party, often a small but artful and enterprising minority of the community; and, according to the alternate triumphs of different parties, to make the public administration the mirror of the ill-concerted and incongruous projects of faction, rather than the organ of consistent and wholesome plans digested by common counsels, and modified by mutual interests.

18 However combinations or associations of the above description may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely, in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people, and to usurp for themselves the reins of government; destroying afterwards the very engines, which have lifted them to unjust dominion.

19 Towards the preservation of your government, and the permanency of your present happy state, it is requisite, not only that you steadily discountenance irregular oppositions to its acknowledged authority, but also that you resist with care the spirit of innovation upon its principles, however specious the pretexts. One method of assault may be to effect, in the forms of the constitution, alterations, which will impair the energy of the system, and thus to undermine what cannot be directly overthrown. In all the changes to which you may be invited, remember that time and habit are at least as necessary to fix the true character of governments, as of other human institutions; that experience is the surest standard, by which to test the real tendency of the existing constitution of a country; that facility in changes, upon the credit of mere hypothesis and opinion, exposes to perpetual change, from the endless variety of hypothesis and opinion; and remember, especially, that, for the efficient management of our common interests, in a country so extensive as ours, a government of as much vigor as is consistent with the perfect security of liberty is indispensable. Liberty itself will find in such a government, with powers properly distributed and adjusted, its surest guardian. It is, indeed, little else than a name, where the government is too feeble to withstand the enterprises of faction, to confine each member of the society within the limits prescribed by the laws, and to maintain all in the secure and tranquil enjoyment of the rights of person and property.

20 I have already intimated to you the danger of parties in the state, with particular reference to the founding of them on geographical discriminations. Let me now take a more comprehensive view, and warn you in the most solemn manner against the baneful effects of the spirit of party, generally.

21 This spirit, unfortunately, is inseparable from our nature, having its root in the strongest passions of the human mind. It exists under different shapes in all governments, more or less stifled, controlled, or repressed; but, in those of the popular form, it is seen in its greatest rankness, and is truly their worst enemy.

22 The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism. But this leads at length to a more formal and permanent despotism. The disorders and miseries, which result, gradually incline the minds of men to seek security and repose in the absolute power of an individual; and sooner or later the chief of some prevailing faction, more able or more fortunate than his competitors, turns this disposition to the purposes of his own elevation, on the ruins of Public Liberty.

23 Without looking forward to an extremity of this kind, (which nevertheless ought not to be entirely out of sight,) the common and continual mischiefs of the spirit of party are sufficient to make it the interest and duty of a wise people to discourage and restrain it.

24 It serves always to distract the Public Councils, and enfeeble the Public Administration. It agitates the Community with ill-founded jealousies and false alarms; kindles the animosity of one part against another, foments occasionally riot and insurrection. It opens the door to foreign influence and corruption, which find a facilitated access to the government itself through the channels of party passions. Thus the policy and the will of one country are subjected to the policy and will of another.

25 There is an opinion, that parties in free countries are useful checks upon the administration of the Government, and serve to keep alive the spirit of Liberty. This within certain limits is probably true; and in Governments of a Monarchical cast, Patriotism may look with indulgence, if not with favor, upon the spirit of party. But in those of the popular character, in Governments purely elective, it is a spirit not to be encouraged. From their natural tendency, it is certain there will always be enough of that spirit for every salutary purpose. And, there being constant danger of excess, the effort ought to be, by force of public opinion, to mitigate and assuage it. A fire not to be quenched, it demands a uniform vigilance to prevent its bursting into a flame, lest, instead of warming, it should consume.

26 It is important, likewise, that the habits of thinking in a free country should inspire caution, in those intrusted with its administration, to confine themselves within their respective constitutional spheres, avoiding in the exercise of the powers of one department to encroach upon another. The spirit of encroachment tends to consolidate the powers of all the departments in one, and thus to create, whatever the form of government, a real despotism. A just estimate of that love of power, and proneness to abuse it, which predominates in the human heart, is sufficient to satisfy us of the truth of this position. The necessity of reciprocal checks in the exercise of political power, by dividing and distributing it into different depositories, and constituting each the Guardian of the Public Weal against invasions by the others, has been evinced by experiments ancient and modern; some of them in our country and under our own eyes. To preserve them must be as necessary as to institute them. If, in the opinion of the people, the distribution or modification of the constitutional powers be in any particular wrong, let it be corrected by an amendment in the way, which the constitution designates. But let there be no change by usurpation; for, though this, in one instance, may be the instrument of good, it is the customary weapon by which free governments are destroyed. The precedent must always greatly overbalance in permanent evil any partial or transient benefit, which the use can at any time yield.

27 Of all the dispositions and habits, which lead to political prosperity, Religion and Morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of Patriotism, who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness, these firmest props of the duties of Men and Citizens. The mere Politician, equally with the pious man, ought to respect and to cherish them. A volume could not trace all their connexions with private and public felicity. Let it simply be asked, Where is the security for property, for reputation, for life, if the sense of religious obligation desert the oaths, which are the instruments of investigation in Courts of Justice? And let us with caution indulge the supposition, that morality can be maintained without religion. Whatever may be conceded to the influence of refined education on minds of peculiar structure, reason and experience both forbid us to expect, that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle.

28 It is substantially true, that virtue or morality is a necessary spring of popular government. The rule, indeed, extends with more or less force to every species of free government. Who, that is a sincere friend to it, can look with indifference upon attempts to shake the foundation of the fabric ?

29 Promote, then, as an object of primary importance, institutions for the general diffusion of knowledge. In proportion as the structure of a government gives force to public opinion, it is essential that public opinion should be enlightened.

30 As a very important source of strength and security, cherish public credit. One method of preserving it is, to use it as sparingly as possible; avoiding occasions of expense by cultivating peace, but remembering also that timely disbursements to prepare for danger frequently prevent much greater disbursements to repel it; avoiding likewise the accumulation of debt, not only by shunning occasions of expense, but by vigorous exertions in time of peace to discharge the debts, which unavoidable wars may have occasioned, not ungenerously throwing upon posterity the burthen, which we ourselves ought to bear. The execution of these maxims belongs to your representatives, but it is necessary that public opinion should cooperate. To facilitate to them the performance of their duty, it is essential that you should practically bear in mind, that towards the payment of debts there must be Revenue; that to have Revenue there must be taxes; that no taxes can be devised, which are not more or less inconvenient and unpleasant; that the intrinsic embarrassment, inseparable from the selection of the proper objects (which is always a choice of difficulties), ought to be a decisive motive for a candid construction of the conduct of the government in making it, and for a spirit of acquiescence in the measures for obtaining revenue, which the public exigencies may at any time dictate.

31 Observe good faith and justice towards all Nations; cultivate peace and harmony with all. Religion and Morality enjoin this conduct; and can it be, that good policy does not equally enjoin it? It will be worthy of a free, enlightened, and, at no distant period, a great Nation, to give to mankind the magnanimous and too novel example of a people always guided by an exalted justice and benevolence. Who can doubt, that, in the course of time and things, the fruits of such a plan would richly repay any temporary advantages, which might be lost by a steady adherence to it ? Can it be, that Providence has not connected the permanent felicity of a Nation with its Virtue? The experiment, at least, is recommended by every sentiment which ennobles human nature. Alas! is it rendered impossible by its vices ?

32 In the execution of such a plan, nothing is more essential, than that permanent, inveterate antipathies against particular Nations, and passionate attachments for others, should be excluded; and that, in place of them, just and amicable feelings towards all should be cultivated. The Nation, which indulges towards another an habitual hatred, or an habitual fondness, is in some degree a slave. It is a slave to its animosity or to its affection, either of which is sufficient to lead it astray from its duty and its interest. Antipathy in one nation against another disposes each more readily to offer insult and injury, to lay hold of slight causes of umbrage, and to be haughty and intractable, when accidental or trifling occasions of dispute occur. Hence frequent collisions, obstinate, envenomed, and bloody contests. The Nation, prompted by ill-will and resentment, sometimes impels to war the Government, contrary to the best calculations of policy. The Government sometimes participates in the national propensity, and adopts through passion what reason would reject; at other times, it makes the animosity of the nation subservient to projects of hostility instigated by pride, ambition, and other sinister and pernicious motives. The peace often, sometimes perhaps the liberty, of Nations has been the victim.

33 So likewise, a passionate attachment of one Nation for another produces a variety of evils. Sympathy for the favorite Nation, facilitating the illusion of an imaginary common interest, in cases where no real common interest exists, and infusing into one the enmities of the other, betrays the former into a participation in the quarrels and wars of the latter, without adequate inducement or justification. It leads also to concessions to the favorite Nation of privileges denied to others, which is apt doubly to injure the Nation making the concessions; by unnecessarily parting with what ought to have been retained; and by exciting jealousy, ill-will, and a disposition to retaliate, in the parties from whom equal privileges are withheld. And it gives to ambitious, corrupted, or deluded citizens, (who devote themselves to the favorite nation,) facility to betray or sacrifice the interests of their own country, without odium, sometimes even with popularity; gilding, with the appearances of a virtuous sense of obligation, a commendable deference for public opinion, or a laudable zeal for public good, the base or foolish compliances of ambition, corruption, or infatuation.

34 As avenues to foreign influence in innumerable ways, such attachments are particularly alarming to the truly enlightened and independent Patriot. How many opportunities do they afford to tamper with domestic factions, to practise the arts of seduction, to mislead public opinion, to influence or awe the Public Councils! Such an attachment of a small or weak, towards a great and powerful nation, dooms the former to be the satellite of the latter.

35 Against the insidious wiles of foreign influence (I conjure you to believe me, fellow-citizens,) the jealousy of a free people ought to be constantly awake; since history and experience prove, that foreign influence is one of the most baneful foes of Republican Government. But that jealousy, to be useful, must be impartial; else it becomes the instrument of the very influence to be avoided, instead of a defence against it. Excessive partiality for one foreign nation, and excessive dislike of another, cause those whom they actuate to see danger only on one side, and serve to veil and even second the arts of influence on the other. Real patriots, who may resist the intrigues of the favorite, are liable to become suspected and odious; while its tools and dupes usurp the applause and confidence of the people, to surrender their interests.

36 The great rule of conduct for us, in regard to foreign nations, is, in extending our commercial relations, to have with them as little political connexion as possible. So far as we have already formed engagements, let them be fulfilled with perfect good faith. Here let us stop.

37 Europe has a set of primary interests, which to us have none, or a very remote relation. Hence she must be engaged in frequent controversies, the causes of which are essentially foreign to our concerns. Hence, therefore, it must be unwise in us to implicate ourselves, by artificial ties, in the ordinary vicissitudes of her politics, or the ordinary combinations and collisions of her friendships or enmities.

38 Our detached and distant situation invites and enables us to pursue a different course. 39 Why forego the advantages of so peculiar a situation? Why quit our own to stand upon foreign ground? Why, by interweaving our destiny with that of any part of Europe, entangle our peace and prosperity in the toils of European ambition, rivalship, interest, humor, or caprice?

Automotive Bail Out

It is disgusting to think of taxpayer dollars bailing out banks and businesses after the mistakes they’ve made ruin their businesses. Take GM for example, they are begging for taxpayer dollars and are adamant about continuing their investments in factories in China, Thailand, and other countries. They are not alone all of the big three are investing in other countries, providing employment for foreign workers while closing down American facilities. If these companies receive tax dollars, it should be with the stipulation that these dollars be used in investing in US manufacturing, in the US.

Also,...

Another observation: you know that you are in trouble when stone aged savages who were recently chopping people up with machetes are celebrating your new president. I am referencing the Odinga/Obama supporters in Kenya, Africa's oldest working democracy, who , when their candidate, Odinga, lost the election, began killing their opposition with machetes. Approximately 1500 were killed including a group of mostly women and children who took refuge inside a church only to be locked inside and the church burned around them. Understandably both sides are celebrating; the Odinga/Obama supporters because Obama won and the opposition to Odinga because they did not have to endure another loser's slaughter. Change we can believe in. Right...

McCain's Concession Speech

Watching the concession speech of John McCain I was struck by something I had never before seen at a concession speech. The crowd was respectful and supportive of their candidate, but they were quiet. There was the occasional outburst of support for McCain and a more frequent booing when McCain would mention Obama, but overall there was a somber, resolute quiet. The faces in the crowd were not fearful, but determined. The determined look of someone with a difficult job that has to be done, and is ready to get started. The quiet confidence that they will commit to success, although success is not guaranteed. There were no glassy eyed fanatics, just Americans who are used to working through difficult problems, realizing the task at hand.

Bumper Sticker

I recently saw a bumper sticker that caused me to smile, it read:

I had to smile as the words of an old Meatloaf song came to mind: "...now don't be sad, cause two out of three ain't bad..."
As I have said rank and file democrats and republicans are the same. It is the leadership that has hijacked the democratic party and taken it to the extreme left.

Obama Truth Squads

In addition to Sen. Obama’s disdain for Americans clinging to their religion (1st Amendment) and their guns (2nd Amendment) the senator’s campaign is emphasizing its disdain for freedom of speech (1st Amendment, again). In Missouri, “Obama Truth Squads” have recruited two government attorneys and various law enforcement agencies to prevent citizens from spreading “lies” and “disinformation” about the senator. They are going so far as to stress that “Obama is a Christian who wants to cut taxes for anyone who earns $250,000 or less per year.” Looking at his limited record and stands on issues, which is hard to do as he is the candidate of “change”, so much so that he changes his positions daily or weekly. In the past he criticized Sen. McCain for saying that the fundamentals of the economy are strong. Then this week in a phone conversation with Treasury Secretary Paulson he said that the long term fundamentals of the economy are strong. He is for “change”, after all. But back to the “Truth Squads”, St. Louis Circuit Attorney, Jennifer Joyce said: “We’re here to respond to character attacks.” And St. Louis County Prosecutor, Robert McCullouch added: “We’re here to keep the record straight.” Does not sound like a lot of room for a difference of opinion. I thought liberals were all for open differences of opinion. Oh yes, Bill Ayers was expressing a difference of opinion via explosives, that’s OK.
The introduction of the “Truth Squads” follows attempts to intimidate television stations into removing ads being aired by the NRA-PVF demonstrating Sen. Obama’s and Sen. Biden’s records of opposition to the 2nd Amendment. The tactics are to send “intimidating cease and desist letters” threatening the stations’ FCC licenses if they run the ads. Secondly, they are calling on their followers to contact the station managers demanding these ads not be run or demanding equal rebuttal time. Sounds like the “Fairness Doctrine” that the Obamaessiah is opposed to, so much for the 1st Amendment, the rule of law, and the liberal idea of open discourse.
To quote Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt: “This abuse of law for intimidation insults the most sacred principles and ideals of (Thomas) Jefferson…..The only conceivable purpose of Messrs. McCullouch, Obama, and the others is to frighten people away from expressing themselves, to chill free and open debate, to suppress support and donations to conservative organizations targeted by this anti-civil rights, to strangle criticism of Mr. Obama, to suppress ads about his support of higher taxes, and to choke out criticism on television, radio, the internet, blogs, email, and daily conversation about the election.”
This is the type of behavior you would expect from Ahmadinejad, Castro, Chavez, and Kim Jung Il. No wonder Obama is so willing to talk to these dictators without pre-condition. And on the Obama webpage we find this: Obama supports tough, direct presidential diplomacy with Iran without preconditions.
And from a July 2007 video interview: In July of 2007, Barack Obama was asked by a video questioner: "Would you be willing to meet separately, without precondition, during the first year of your administration, in Washington or anywhere else, with the leaders of Iran, Syria, Venezuela, Cuba and North Korea?....."

Hillary to Replace Biden?

Rumors are floating around that the powers that be in the DNC were not happy about Obama picking Biden and going in to the convention with a running mate. No way to force Hillary onto the ticket that way. Which a Clinton/Obama ticket or Obama/Clinton would almost be a guaranteed win. Palin changed that and now the shady characters are at work again.
Here's this rumor for your attention:
Let me share some info with you that I have gotten from excellent sources within the DNC: On or about October 5th, Biden will excuse himself from the ticket, citing health problems, and he will be replaced by Hillary. This is timed to occur after the VP debate on 10/2. There have been talks all weekend about how to proceed with this info. generally, the feeling is that we should all go ahead and get it out there to as many blog sites and personal email lists as is possible. I have already seen a few short blurbs about this - the 'health problem' cited in those articles was aneurysm. Probably many of you have heard the same rumblings. However, at this point, with this inside info from the DNC, it looks like this Obama strategy will be a go. Therefore, it seems that the best strategy is to get out in front of this Obama maneuver, spell it out in detail, and thereby expose it for the grand manipulation that it is. So, let's start mixing this one up and cut the Obamaites off at the pass - send this info out to as many people as you can - post about it on websites and blogs - etc, etc.

I have been very harsh about illegal immigration and will continue to be. This is the only wave of "immigration" that has demanded the the U.S. adapt to its culture and language. And that is sad, because there have been many great leaders in Latin America's history, but they have not had the following to make a difference in their own countries. It is far too easy to go to the U.S. to make a better life. Only they don't realize that in doing so illegally they are bringing the worst of what they are trying to leave with them. If these people want the better life liberty can give, they need to stay in their country and do what our founding fathers did,take it. Freedom and liberty are never given, they have to be taken by greater force than the oppressors are willing to use to keep them away from us. The DNC 2008

While attempting to watch the Democratic National Convention, I was not upset that the politicians were lying. They are politicians, the fact that they lie is a given. One thing that upset me about them was that they were talking down to the audience while lying. It was as if the audience was a second grade elementary school class. I expected the same from the republicans. I was mistaken. The speakers at the DNC were negative and derogatory about America and offered no positive solutions to any of the nations problems. The speakers at the RNC were full of pride and enthusiasm for America and offered solid solutions, while itemizing both past accomplishments and failures. While listening to the DNC I was soured and angry, but while listening to the RNC I was positive and motivated.
What really got my blood boiling about the DNC was that the audience enthusiastically believed the lies. These are the wealthy and educated members of the party and they were soaking up the ‘party line’ like a desert soaks up rain. The speakers lied about history, ignored facts, distorted science, and hid their own record. It was normal political fare, but that it was being consumed so greedily was shocking. If these are the best and brightest, how gullible must the general population be? I could not watch uninterrupted. I had to turn it off for periods and then return to see if it were isolated speakers or if it wee the entire cast playing out the lies. With each speaker the fallacy continued to be played out, to the point of Mrs. Clinton’s speech. And that was a dramatic misrepresentation of fact. Surely the Marx/Hitler theory of ‘Lie big, lie consistent and it will be believed’ was the plan of the night. Again, the sad part is the number of people who would rather believe the lies than to take the time to find out the truth for themselves. We are surely in for difficult times ahead.

Now We Have a Race

Okay, now we have a race! McCain announcing his choice of Gov. Sarah Palin as running mate says many positive things about his campaign. First, is OPSEC, Operation Security, this was a complete surprise. For there to be a complete lack of leaks of this explosive bit of news shows how tight the McCain Campaign is. Excellent job. Second is judgment, this is the right choice in many ways. The Alaskan governor is a strong, intelligent, independent candidate who happens to be a woman; a wife and mother with a son serving in a Stryker battalion in the U.S. Army, and a woman whose youngest child has Down syndrome. She was elected to the governorship on a platform of shaking up government and she has delivered. Gov. Palin is an independent thinker who is strong enough to solidify the conservatives, and forward thinking enough to appeal to libertarians and moderate to conservative democrats. Her being someone from outside the Washington, D.C. mess will appeal to undecided voters who are sick of politics as usual. A Life Member in the NRA, and a strong American leader, what more could one ask for? The choosing and the accepting are outstanding decisions for McCain and Palin alike. Now, I feel enthusiasm and that there might be a good chance to defeat the democrats.

The Next Part of the Readiness Guide

Part of the stocking of necessities for the upcoming difficult times is the next part of the readiness guide that has been quoted to date.

2) AMMUNITION: Your ammunition must be for your rifle. It is by far better to buy your ammo in bulk than to buy it a box or two at a time. Perhaps you can go in together with someone that uses the same rounds as you do. This is a common occurrence in the unit. It would be great if you (or your fellow team-mates) could get into reloading, so you could save even more money. We suggest that you keep at least 1000 rounds of ammo at home, as it can become a high-value commodity overnight. Ammo can be ordered from wholesalers, and delivered directly to you,

100 rounds is an absolute minimum carried load. This ammo should be carried "hands-free" in ammo pouches or a bandoleer. Carrying a bucket of ammo will not work. If your weapon is magazine-fed, you must carry at least one magazine, and we highly suggest that you have enough magazines to carry 100 rounds in. If you do not have a magazine-fed rifle, then try to keep your rounds on stripper clips. Loading single rounds one at a time can put you at a dire tactical disadvantage. You should make every effort to ensure that your ammo is easily accessible for quick and efficient reloading. It is a good idea to bring an ammo can full of your favorite rounds to training.

Armor piercing rounds, tracers, and such: These special purpose rounds are much more expensive than regular ball ammunition. If you can afford some, armor piercing rounds would be a bonus in the event that you are confronted by armor wearing foes (like the bank robbers in Los Angeles). If you are a small unit leader, you may wish to consider tracer rounds to help direct your unit's fire.

Hollow point ammunition is not allowed in armed conflict under the Geneva Convention. It is, however, acceptable for training or hunting. Please be aware that recent policy statements made by The US Department of Defense seem to express the position that in certain instances, hollow point type ammo is acceptable. The Hague protocols seem to apply to armed conflict between regular uniformed armed forces of a nation, and not to anti-terrorist operations.

The Psychological Neutering of the American Male

The good news is that more and more American women are buying firearms, learning to use them, and legally carrying them for their own protection. The bad news is that one of the reasons why is the demise of the American male. The average American male is being psychologically neutered and being rendered unable to function in any normal fashion. This does not include members of the military, for obvious reasons. Women are now more psychologically suited to protect themselves than men are to protect them. The violent video games and bad rap lyrics aside, even ‘gang bangers’ are cowards. They don’t stand and fight man to man, they gang up (gang bangers) on one person or they shoot unarmed people. Pure cowardice.
Sensitivity training, Hollywood depictions of normal American males as inept and ‘nerdy’ or as uneducated rednecks, and the casting of homosexuals as normal all contribute to this situation. Add the lack of discipline in schools, ‘zero tolerance’ policies that punish the victims of attack as well as the attackers, and the government’s removal of parental rights to raise their children and you have what we see now in our society.
Special interest profiteers and government policies are isolating people form one another along racial, religious, and political lines. If you help someone in trouble, you may be subject to a lawsuit. If you interact outside your circle, you are looked upon with suspicion. We are isolated, and then add Homeland Security telling us that we have to watch each other because “Anyone could be a terrorist”.
We are being divided and, like the individual sticks of bamboo, individually we can be broken, but bound together we are strong. Apparently the government fears our strength when we are united. We just might hold them accountable for all the wrong they have done and how much of our money they waste. As Ben Franklin said during the Continental Congress debates leading up to the Declaration of Independence, “We must hang together or we shall surely hang separately.”

An Assassination Would Be Horrible

The last thing that needs to happen in this country is for some idiot to attempt or succeed in assassinating Sen. Obama. His death would be a tragedy for him and all who love him and look up to him. The resultant upheaval would be terrible for the country. And the draconian government response would be the death knell of our Constitution. Sen. Biden already has another “crime bill” ready and waiting for any tragic crime to trigger it into law. Add this to the Constitution shredding done by Pres. Bush, and we have what quickly looks like martial law. As I understand it, law enforcement has arrested three men in Denver in procession of weapons, body armor, and illegal drugs. They were allegedly going to try to shoot Sen. Obama during his acceptance speech. What idiots!!!
The immediate result would be national mourning, quickly followed by choosing a replacement candidate. The natural choice would be, you guessed it, Sen. H. Clinton who finished a close second to Sen. Obama and has since endorsed his candidacy. Sen. Clinton would then be assured a strong victory as a memorial to Sen. Obama. Sen. Biden’s “crime Bill” would quickly pass through the house and senate and be signed into law by a lame duck president with a history of limiting the individual freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution and Bill Of Rights or by Pres. Clinton II. Sarah Brady, Ted Kennedy, Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, and the rest of the anti freedom leaders would secretly celebrate another opportunity to further subjugate the American people. Disarmed peasants are so much easier to control, hence the laws prohibiting arming slaves or ex slaves in pre Civil War America, see the Dred Scott Decision, and reference the Jim Crow laws in the post reconstruction South.
No, the election process needs to proceed without the violence of some mindless robot carrying out an assassination of anybody.

Joe Biden for Vice President 2008

Joe Biden, with 36 years in the U.S. Senate, brings a wealth of experience on how things are done in Washington, D.C. He does not bring change. In fact, he is so knowledgeable of how the system works; his lawyer son became a highly paid lobbyist. Sen. Biden once stated that Sen. Obama lacked experience and that the job of President of the United States was no place for “on the job training”. So what changed his mind and what does Sen. Biden bring to the Obama Campaign? As Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, he brings the typical democratic look at U.S. foreign policy…Anything favoring the U.S is wrong and must be aborted. He also authored the Biden Crime Bill of 1994, better known, falsely, as the assault weapons ban, which dovetails nicely with Sen. Obama’s opinion of the Second Amendment. Combine this with the Obama domestic agenda of “if you work hard and pursue the American dream, I am going to tax you into poverty” and Sen. Obama’s attempts to gag the First Amendment by trying to silence the opposing views in the media and you have exactly what the U.S. does not need nor want: descent into third world cesspool status. Remember, sheeple: “Two legs bad, four legs good, two legs bad, four legs good.”

Mistaken About the Democrats

Well, well, it appears that I was mistaken about the democrats. They have nominated Obama and he has proven smart enough to not wait until the convention to announce his running mate. He has taken a page out of the Clinton I play book in choosing his version of Al Gore as Vice President. And he did not wait on the convention back room maneuverings to force him to take H. Clinton onto the ticket. No Vince Foster moment for this one. He is a product of the Chicago political machine, therefore a survivor. And it would appear that this Mayor Daly will actually own the White House, instead of playing king maker, like his father. “Oh what a tangled web we weave…” Or should I be quoting Machiavelli instead of Shakespeare? It would appear that prudent home stocking of necessities is in order, as this wave of Bolshevism rises to a crest in American politics. This storm could be a long one.

Another Part of the Guide

This is another part of the guide which was posted earlier. It discusses choosing a rifle. I hope you find it interesting and informative. Everyone has their own preference based on their experience. Take this for what it is worth; a compiled group of opinions.
BASIC EQUIPMENT - A DETAILED LOOK
1) RIFLE: There are many choices available when choosing a primary weapon. Because military rifles have been subjected to extensive testing and have been designed to withstand tough battlefield conditions, we suggest that your rifle be of a type similar to that used by some military forces at some point within the last 100 years or so. Even a brief study of the history of military conflict, and a look at current events will reveal that this does not narrow your choice by any measurable degree. Any type of weapon can be used in a pinch.
For our purposes, we will rule out extremely rare and ancient weapons. Muskets, blunderbusses, and repeating crossbows are better than no weapon at all, but not very practical to discuss in this guide.
Theoretically, you could carry a pistol or shotgun as a primary weapon. Indeed, there are many specific situations where a pistol or shotgun will be the best thing you can have, but for general purposes, a rifle is what is required.
We will look at some of the options available to the novice militia person.

Military surplus bolt-action rifles. For the average citizen, the first consideration in acquiring that first weapon will be cost. (One should also factor in how much value they place on the survival of themselves, their families, and their Nation.) Military surplus bolt-action rifles are among the most inexpensive weapons available. Just because a rifle is inexpensive, that doesn't mean that there is anything wrong with it. Many of these old bolt-action rifles have served admirably in conflicts around the world.
With just a bit of effort, some of these old war-horses can be turned into impressively accurate sniper-rifles, which would be perfect for guerrilla-type, shoot-and-run operations.
One consideration when looking at military surplus bolt-action rifles is ammunition availability. They can come in some pretty obscure calibers, so ask around before buying one. Some fairly common, affordable rifles come in 7.62X54, .303, and various 8mm cartridges. The 6.5mm Swedish Mauser has been increasing in popularity recently, and it is still fairly affordable. Of course, any rifle is better than none, as long as you have ammunition for it. The M44 Carbine chambered in 7.62X54, and the Turkish 8MM Mauser are very affordable options, and would serve well as militia weapons.
Check at the next gun show, talk to your local dealer, or spend some time reading "The Shotgun News" (available at any good bookstore or newsstand), to get some ideas on what you can afford.
Another relatively inexpensive option would be to purchase an SKS. These are 10-shot semi-automatic carbines, with either a 16- or 20-inch barrel. Made in China or Russia, these are chambered in 7.62X39, the same round as the AK47. You may still be able to find some with a built-in bayonet. This may, one day, be a useful feature.
The fixed 10-round magazine may be seen by some to be an overly limiting feature, but beware of after-market conversion kits intended to allow a detachable-magazine. Section 922R of the arbitrarily made-up federal regulations could make adding this item a felony. More importantly, most people who have tried these conversion kits have found them heavy and difficult to operate, and they have quickly returned to the stock, 10-round fixed magazine. Loading a fixed magazine with stripper clips is a completely acceptable method of operating this weapon, anyway. There are some SKS rifles that will accept the AK47 magazine. These are hard to find, and are certainly more expensive than a 10-round SKS, but they are dependable weapons.
Also accepting the AK47 magazines are the many civilian versions of the AK47. The most commonly available version of these is the MAK90. They cost more than the SKS, and are just as reliable. The big improvement is their ability to accept larger capacity magazines. Since there are such large-capacity magazines available, you may wish to consider a heavy-barrel version of this rifle. Most of them will be designated as such. A heavy-barrel will allow a greater rate of fire, because the heavier barrel will be less likely to overheat. A drawback to a heavy-barrel is the additional weight. This is a personal decision, with no clear right or wrong way to go.
The AK47 is considered one of the most successful military rifles in the world. Its use by armies and others worldwide will attest to its worthiness as a militia weapon. In our experience, however, the typical AK is not very accurate. The most accurate AK variants are the newer VEPR rifles, and some of the older ones with longer, heavier barrels.
The .30 Cal. M1 Carbine is another rifle to consider. These were originally designed to replace the .45 pistol. They are relatively lightweight, and fairly accurate. Chambered for the .30 cal. round, they do not possess overwhelming penetration power. Several million of these were produced, so there are plenty out there. The .30 Carbine round is no longer used by any armed forces, so in the long run, it may become difficult to acquire more ammunition in the field.
Ruger manufactures both the Mini14, chambered in .223, and the Mini30, chambered in 7.62X39. These are both reliable and accurate, and not incredibly heavy. Either one would serve well as a militia weapon. They come in many variants, and many accessories are also available. They may be, however, a bit more difficult to break down, clean, and reassemble in a filed environment.
The Korean-made Daewoo DR200 is a favorite among some of our militia friends. It uses the same ammunition as the AR15/M16, .223 cal., the round used by our military forces, and it also accepts the same magazine. It is accurate and dependable, and it costs much less than an AR15. They have that terrible "thumbhole" stock, but if you don't mind that ugly bit of political correctness, these would make a fine choice.
The L1A1, the civilian version of the FN/FAL, would be a good option. These weapons are chambered in the popular .308 (7.62X51), these weapons offer possibly more range than the .223 selections. They are a bit heavier than many rifles, but they are made very well, and are dependable rifles.
The .308 CETME, a predecessor to the German G3 and similar rifles is one of the recent favorites among militia members. They are relatively inexpensive at around $350 or so. Field testing of the rifles at militia training has proven them to be excellent rifles. 20-round magazines for these rifles are fairly inexpensive, and ammo and accessories seem to be reasonably priced.
The M1 Garand, chambered for .30-06, a very hard-hitting round, has been called the greatest infantry rifle ever made, in one publication. These rifles have a unique 8-round clip that pops out when empty. For a powerful rifle with long range capabilities, they would be excellent. For a spray-and-pray enthusiast (someone with less emphasis on accuracy, and more emphasis on large volumes of rounds), this would not be a good pick. The .30-06 round is widely available, as it is used by many hunters.
Many people consider the M1A to be the ultimate rifleman's weapon ever developed. Chambered in .308, rugged, durable, and incredibly accurate, these will make excellent choices for militia riflemen. If you can afford these somewhat expensive masterpieces, then you should strongly consider it. The AR15 is the civilian version of the rifle used by the US armed forces, the M16. As it is possible that militia units will find it necessary to fight alongside US units in defending our country, this would be an appropriate choice. These rifles come in so many barrel lengths, and with so many options and variants, that it would be very difficult to not find one that suits you. The AR is a precision made, close tolerance machine. This provides more accuracy than nearly any other standard military semi-auto rifle, but it requires fastidious cleaning to ensure reliability. Some loose tolerance rifle types, like the AK series, are famous for being subjected to mud and rust by illiterate rural peasants anywhere in the world, and still come up shooting every time. The AR is more suitable for Americans, who use machinery
every day (cars, phones, computers, doorknobs, flushing toilets), and are much more likely to be capable of maintaining it. Most of the US military surplus gear that is currently available is geared toward this weapon. It is a favorite of many militia types.
Keep in mind that the most commonly available rounds are .223, 7.62X39, and .308 (7.62X51). Availability of ammo is an important consideration, and we know of some people who have purchased a weapon merely because they came across a good deal on some ammo for that weapon.
There are many other options to think about. A lever-action 30-30 will work, if that's what you have. It would be a good idea to attend any militia range function, and see what they are carrying. We have even seen a 9mm Carbine used to qualify Level One with, so one of these would be acceptable, as well.
Given that the right to keep and bear any arms is continually coming under attack, one should give serious thought to acquiring that first weapon as soon as possible; buy a rifle while you still can.

More Border Trouble

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said three suspects who broke into a home and killed the owner weren't active or former members of the Mexican Army.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said three suspects arrested in a Monday morning Phoenix home invasion and homicide were not members of the Mexican Army.

"We have no indication whatsoever that any of the individuals were involved with formal military in Mexico," said Vincent Picard of ICE. Click Here for more.

The incident at 8329 W. Cypress St. resulted in the death of the homeowner. Between 50 and 100 rounds were fired at the house.

While on the J.D. Hayworth show Tuesday, a top member of a Phoenix police union announced that the suspects were active members of the Mexican Army hired by drug cartels to perform home invasions and murders.

Phoenix Police Enforcement President Mark Spencer said a police officer told him that one of the men captured said they were completely prepared to ambush Phoenix police, but ran out of ammunition. Click Here to listen to the entire interview.

He added that all of them were dressed in military tactical gear and armed with AR-15 assault rifles. Three other men involved in the invasion escaped.

Picard said two of the men spent a "significant amount of time" in the Arizona Department of Corrections, adding that they could have picked up their "tactics from other criminals while incarcerated."

Phoenix police also did not confirm whether the men were from the military despite internal documents showing that they were (see above).

Sgt. Joel Tranter said one suspect revealed that he had "prior military training," but "no credible evidence" that any of them were active in the military.

Basic Readiness Guideline

This is the next section of the guide previously mentioned. Been extremely busy the last few weeks and will get back on track ASAP.
LEVEL 1 - BASIC READINESS:
We consider Level 1 the absolute minimum level of preparedness necessary to be an active line member of the militia as well as vote in militia activities. These, when met, will be sufficient to be considered "capable of bearing arms"; the militia being defined as "all citizens capable of bearing arms". Once you have started testing for Level One, you will have 60 days to complete it, though it can easily be achieved in a single training session. This will give everyone at least two sessions in which to try it. You can always start again if necessary.

Level One qualification will last until the end of the following calendar year, so if you qualify at any time during 2008, for example, you will be considered an active member until December 31st, 2009.



Basic Equipment:

1) Rifle.

2) 100 rounds of ammunition for same rifle.

3) Water container, one quart minimum.

4) Cleaning kit for above rifle.

5) Suitable carrying gear to transport personal equipment.

6) Individual first-aid kit.

7) Combat or hiking boots.

8) Copy of the US Constitution (the document, not the ship, the USS Constitution) and Declaration of Independence.



Basic Abilities:

A) Complete a two-mile hike with all basic equipment within 40 minutes.

B) Field strip weapon for cleaning.

C) Place 8 out of 10 shots into a 9" target at 100 yards.

Interesting Guideline

The following was posted on a volunteer militia site and I thought some of you might be interested reading it. There is more to follow, but I did not want to put too much in one posting. Enjoy.

This guide was developed after much discussion and field experimentation. Many, MANY, hours were spent arguing over what to consider "necessary", and to what degree of skill militia persons should aspire. This guide is for the completely uninitiated, though others will also find it useful. It is by no means all-inclusive. There will be many items left out that you may personally feel are absolutely necessary, and there may be skills left out that you may believe to be absolutely essential as well.
This guide is for beginners. We'll explain what we're doing here. Take your average American, and thrust him into a position where he must defend his way of life against terrorism, tyranny, crime, invasion, or any other threat or emergency. To what degree should he train? What kind of gear should he have? Add to these the facts that he is working a steady job, has a great deal of family commitments, and would still like to see a hockey game or a movie now and then. You will find that he has very little time to train, very little money to spend on gear, and very little energy left to pursue the causes of freedom.
That's a fairly decent picture of your average militia person today. Only the most determined dedication can overcome these obstacles.
So we have developed this guide, in the hopes that it will help smooth over the rough road to readiness. Perhaps with this minimal direction that we have set forth, a few more motivated patriots will now seek to develop the skills necessary to defend our great Republic.

China Using Oil as a Strategy

What is the possibility of China buying up oil to stockpile and to force the price of oil up in the U.S.? Remember, the Chinese think long term. This strategy would have multiple benefits for our "friends" in Peking.
One, they would be building a strategic stockpile of oil.
Two, they would be crippling an already hurting U.S. economy, thus reducing U.S. influence world wide.
Three, it affects the U.S. election causing a more agreeable (if possible) administration to be in the White House.
Four, it causes dissent and strife in the U.S., distracting us away from other issues such as Tibet and NAFTA.
Conspiracy theory? Maybe, or maybe they are just taking advantage of the situation being driven by speculators in oil futures. Another thing to remember, the People's Republic of China is still a brutal dictatorship and they have to answer to no one. Some U.S. politicians have not forgotten that and are apparently trying to emulate them here.

Democrats Propose Stripping Rights from Veterans

I don't know why I am surprized, but Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY)and Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT) are proposing to strip rights away from those who served to protect the rights of all of us. Including the rights of McCarthy and Leahy. Read the attached article, because I could not express it any better.
Veterans Disarmament Act To Bar Vets From Owning Guns

Hundreds of thousands of veterans -- from Vietnam through Operation Iraqi Freedom -- are at risk of being banned from buying firearms if legislation that is pending in Congress gets enacted.

How? The Veterans Disarmament Act -- which has already passed the House -- would place any veteran who has ever been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) on the federal gun ban list.

This is exactly what President Bill Clinton did over seven years ago when his administration illegitimately added some 83,000 veterans into the National Criminal Information System (NICS system) -- prohibiting them from purchasing firearms, simply because of afflictions like PTSD.

The proposed ban is actually broader. Anyone who is diagnosed as being a tiny danger to himself or others would have his gun rights taken away ... forever. It is section 102((1)©(iv) in HR 2640 that provides for dumping raw medical records into the system. Those names -- like the 83,000 records mentioned above -- will then, by law, serve as the basis for gun banning.

No wonder the Military Order of the Purple Heart is opposed to this legislation.

The House bill, HR 2640, is being sponsored by one of the most flaming anti-Second Amendment Representatives in Congress: Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY). Another liberal anti-gunner, Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT), is sponsoring the bill in the Senate.

Proponents of the bill say that helpful amendments have been made so that any veteran who gets his name on the NICS list can seek an expungement.

But whenever you talk about expunging names from the Brady NICS system, you’re talking about a procedure that has always been a long shot. Right now, there are NO EXPUNGEMENTS of law-abiding Americans’ names that are taking place under federal level. Why? Because the expungement process which already exists has been blocked for over a decade by a "funds cut-off" engineered by another anti-gunner, Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY).

So how will this bill make things even worse? Well, two legal terms are radically redefined in the Veterans Disarmament Act to carry out this vicious attack on veterans’ gun rights.

One term relates to who is classified a "mental defective." Forty years ago that term meant one was adjudicated "not guilty" in a court of law by reason of insanity. But under the Veterans Disarmament Act, "mental defective" has been stretched to include anyone whom a psychiatrist determines might be a tiny danger to self or others.

The second term is "adjudicate." In the past, one could only lose one's gun rights through an adjudication by a judge, magistrate or court -- meaning conviction after a trial. Adjudication could only occur in a court with all the protections of due process, including the right to face one's accuser. Now, adjudication in HR 2640 would include a finding by "a court, commission, committee or other authorized person" (namely, a psychiatrist).

Forget the fact that people with PTSD have the same violent crime rate as the rest of us. Vietnam vets with PTSD have had careers and obtained permits to carry firearms concealed. It will now be enough for a psychiatric diagnosis (a "determination" in the language of the bill) to get a veteran barred ­for life ­ from owning guns.

Think of what this bill would do to veterans. If a robber grabs your wallet and takes everything in it, but gives you back $5 to take the bus home, would you call that a financial enhancement? If not, then we should not let HR 2640 supporters call the permission to seek an expungement an enhancement, when prior to this bill, veterans could not legitimately be denied their gun rights after being diagnosed with PTSD.

Veterans with PTSD should not be put in a position to seek an expungement. They have not been convicted (after a trial with due process) of doing anything wrong. If a veteran is thought to be a threat to self or others, there should be a real trial, not an opinion (called a diagnosis) by a psychiatrist.

If members of Congress do not hear from soldiers (active duty and retired) in large numbers, along with the rest of the public, the Veterans Disarmament Act -- misleadingly titled by Rep. McCarthy as the NICS Improvement Amendments Act -- will send this message to veterans: "No good deed goes unpunished."

Energy Repression

Thanks to the environmental wackos, U.S. oil companies are prohibited from drilling for oil off the coast of Florida. These people are quick to shrilly demand protection for the environment, and equally shrilly they demand investigation into high oil prices. Duh, cut supply, increase demand, price goes up. The advocates of solar and wind energy are quick to curtail "wind farms" in their backyards or playgrounds, i.e., Sen T. Kennedy and Sen L. Alexander. Wind and solar work, but cannot replace fossil fuel to supply our increasing demand. Any time a new refinery is proposed it is soundly opposed both locally and nationally. These people want to look at their cake and to eat it, too, while those of us working people are paying for their egotistical rantings and political maneuverings. The wackos do not object when the Brazil state owned oil company and Communist Cuba jointly drill for oil off the Florida coast, not that it would matter, the great thing about being Communist Cuba is never having to say you're sorry. Amazing, not a sound from Al Gore and company.
Switching to the nuclear front, if the American leftists favorite nation, France, can produce 78 per cent of the energy generated in France from nukes (http://energypriorities.com/entries/2007/05/france_78_nuclear.php), any one can. Let's face it, the French are perennial losers. The Mexicans celebrate Cinco de Mayo. It is the anniversary of the 5th of May 1862 battle of Pueblo in which they defeated the French. As a friend said,"Big deal, who hasn't?" Let's see, who has beaten the French? In recorded history, Romans, Visi Goths (Germans), Ostra Goths (more Germans), England, the vikings, Spain, the Flemish militia, Russia, England(again), American colonists, Haitian slaves, Mexico, Prussia(more Germans), Germans, Germans,Viet Minh, and Algerians. You could almost seat the U.N. with people who have beaten the French and these guys produce safe nuke energy. According to the leftist 'environmentalists' the U.S. can't produce safe nuke energy. It is time to shake off the environmental parasites and once again take our place as world leader in energy, technology, and manufacturing. To paraphrase Adm. Farragut, Damn the leftists, full speed ahead!
Call your congressman and senators, tell them to allow drilling off Florida, in ANWR, and to allow building of nuclear power plants and oil refineries. Never Doubt H. Clinton

And you still count Hillary out? Look, she has been kicking butt in the latest primaries. The DNC has caved and is ‘allowing’ the FL and Mich delegates into the convention with ½ a vote. This shows weakness on the part of the DNC, following the bad judgment of telling these states they couldn’t move their primary dates. Even the republicans opposed not counting the votes of U.S. citizens when the DNC made that pronouncement. By the time the convention arrives there will have been enough hoopla that all delegates will be seated and all votes will count. Now factor in the fact that members of the ‘all inclusive’ party have publicly stated, emphatically, that if Obama is the party nominee they will vote for McCain. That doesn’t speak well for anyone involved, but the party powers that be will or have taken notice. They will pull Obama and Mrs. Clinton into a back room and tell them: “This is how it goes…You are running together.”
“But, do you think O will go for that?”
1. He threw his grandmother under the bus.
2. He threw his pastor under the bus.
3. He threw his church under the bus.
4. He is wearing a U.S. flag lapel pin when wearing a jacket.
To quote Rev. Write: “He’s just a politician.” And he’s is a product of Chicago politics. He will do what he is told.

There have been numerous assassinations and attempts on U.S. politicians by a series of nutcases. Hillary is the most polarizing person in politics in decade, primarily for her anti-American, anti-Constitution stands. The powers that be might point that out to O as a selling point. They might also point out Vince Foster, et al, as someone who got in her way. Added is the premise that if he goes along eight years is not too long to wait.

The Warner Lieberman Bill, a.k.a. America’s Security Act of 2007

As usual with congress, if it sounds good, it’s probably bad. This bill is no exception. The devil is in the details. What this bill is “acclaimed for” is its “environmental impact” which is political speak for “punish America for being successful”. According to various reports 1 to 3 million U.S. jobs will be lost by the year 2020 if this bill becomes law. The U.S. economy will lose $1.2 trillion in the same amount of time. U.S. manufacturing jobs, already leaving the country in record numbers, will effectively be forced out at financial bayonet point. Why is the U.S. congress intent on destroying the U.S., industrially, financially, and politically? If for example, you have a chicken that has been laying eggs and you want to keep getting eggs from this chicken, would it make sense to chop off its head and fry it up for dinner? That is congress at its best. At worst we’ll discuss later. To allow Congress to further penalize our industries is to see complete outsourcing. We already cannot compete with the slave labor of Communist China and since Sen. Diane Feinstein(D – CA) and husband are up to their eyes in business in China, perhaps that might be an indicator as to why all our jobs are going over there. Police State Tactics in Tennessee?

As we all know from Hollywood, the only things in Tennessee are country music and bare foot hillbillies running moonshine.
Evidently there things which have brought the attention of federal authorities. A few years ago the feds invested $400,000 to raid a Cock fighting arena in East Tennessee, they utilized FBI SWAT teams, including posting snipers in the woods, a large number of state troopers, and two UH-1Y model helicopters. No, I did not mistake the nomenclature. UH-1Y. Reference www.army-technology.com for the info on this new version of the venerable UH-1H. The raid can be found in an article titled Cocke County Confidential at www.knoxnews.com, the photo of the two UH-1Y's are at the bottom of the article.
Last month the Dept of Homeland Security conducted a three state operation called Operation Sudden Impact. This can be found at www.colfaxrecord.com or www.commercialappeal.com The operation involved the coast guard boarding and searching boats on the river, homeland security raiding businesses for computers to track "acts of terror that had not happened yet", numerous traffic stops and road blocks.
So, why all the attention in Tennessee?
Numerous reasons: 1. I40, I24, I75, I81, I65 all pass through TN, a tactical strike in Memphis, Nashville, or Knoxville could shut down transportation for a huge section of the eastern U.S.
2. There a large number of railroad services and many miles of track in Tennessee, also crucial to American transportation.
3. Oak Ridge National Laboratory. You know, the places and complexes used to build nuclear weapons.
4. The TVA systems of hydroelectric dams control flooding and provide power to the east.
And I could go on.
Also, the volunteer state is known for being the home of incredibly patriotic and stubborn Americans. These raids serve dual purposes, they allow the government to practice tactics and they intimidate and condition the population to respond obediently to authority, even when authority is wrong. As pointed out Tennessee is critical to the 'normal' life of the entire eastern U.S., so the government cannot allow any one to jeopardize its 'normalcy'.

Scotland's Gun Ban Doesn't Work

Scotland has had a gun ban in place for a decade now. Guess what? According to a Scottish newspaper, "Cases of attempted murder involving firearms [are] almost three times that of a decade ago." That's right. Ten years after a gun ban was put in place, crimes involving firearms have increased, not decreased.

Add Scotland to the list of places that have implemented gun bans, only to see things get worse. It's the same story in England, where news reports last month say gun-related crime continued to climb in 2007. In fact, the shadow home secretary says violent crime has doubled during the time Labour's been in power.

Remember these figures the next time someone says that a gun ban would make us all safer. It doesn't matter if you're talking about cities like Chicago, federal districts like Washington, D.C., or entire countries like England or Scotland. Gun bans don't reduce crime. They only empower the criminals.

Recent Book Reading

I just finished a very frightening book. Not the Stephan King, chills up your spine kind of frightening. The kind of frightening that you are walking across a railroad trestle to the far side of a river and you feel the telltale vibration of a train on the tracks. You start to run to the nearest side, but see the train and realize you will be run over or you will have to jump into the rocky riverbed below.
The title is The Day the Dollar Dies by Willard Cantelon. The book was published in 1973, but could read like headline news today. I’m not calling Cantelon a prophet, but an extremely astute historian, economist, and theologian. For all of us whose only study of economics was the required high school course, the title sounds boring. For those who have a more advanced study, it is probably fascinating. The latter is more accurate. I highly recommend this book, if you can find it. It is very well written, and a compelling read. It has been said that truth is stranger than fiction, what you will read in this book will (with supportive historic documentation) cause any Hollywood espionage thriller to be put to shame. It is on a scale of National Treasure in historic research and suspense. If it were presented as a work of fiction, it would have been a best seller. I can’t emphasize the importance of this book enough.
Find it, buy it, read it.

Al Sharpton a Blind Squirrel?

I hate to agree with Al Sharpton on anything, but as the old saying goes: “Sometimes even a blind squirrel finds a nut.” Sometimes even Al Sharpton can find a truth. This is the case. Sean Bell was a 23 year old American. He was celebrating with friends the night before his wedding when he and his friends were accosted by unidentified men with guns. Sean and his friends, drunk from their celebrating, jumped into their car and attempted to leave when a van drove in quickly to try to cut them off. The closest man with a gun was pointing it at them. What would you do? He attempted to run down his attacker and was killed by 50 bullets striking his body. Sean and his friends were unarmed, and there were no guns in the car. The men were NYPD undercover detectives. The van was an unmarked NYPD vehicle. The three standard sidearms for the NYPD all have a maximum capacity of 15 rounds, so if all three officers emptied their magazines, someone would have had to reload and fire 5 more rounds, just in Sean. That is not counting his two friends. Just a little overkill. We have one innocent man dead and two others wounded at the hands of government officials who are supposed to “protect and serve”. In what would appear to be an open and shut case, the unthinkable happened, the officers were acquitted. Now Al Sharpton is leading a protest in NY and I wish him luck and God speed. There have been too many cases of police abuse in the U.S. and they have been increasing in frequency over the past few years, as the federal government strikes down restrictions on government power which were put in place to protect the citizens from an aggressive government. And as The Patriot Act shreds the Constitution in a very un-patriotic way, we the people have to stand up for ourselves and each other. We have to come together as Americans and understand that whatever our differences are, we are Americans first. We also have to remember George Washington’s words that government is like fire, a dangerous servant and a fearful master. We must return the fire to the servant position.
