An 80-year-old Chicago man shot and killed an armed man who broke into his two-story house in a pre-dawn home invasion Wednesday on the city's West Side.

At about 5:20 a.m., the homeowner and his wife, also in her 80s, discovered the intruder entering their home through a back door. The homeowner, who had a gun, confronted and killed the burglar on the doorstep, police said. Cops said the intruder also fired his gun during the struggle.

"It's a good thing they had a gun, or they might be dead," said Curtis Thompson, who lives next door to the couple, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

Neighbors described the elderly couple, who both walk with canes, as pillars of the community in Garfield Park, where home invasions have been all too frequent.

Their neighbor, Shaquite Johnson, told MyFoxChicago that the two are "heroes" for fighting off the attacker — and that the shooting means there is "one less criminal" walking the streets.
"They don't bother no one, so why would anyone do that to them?" she said.

Relatives of the couple told the Sun Times that the man is an Army veteran, his wife a former nurse. Police said neither the man nor the woman was injured in the attack.

The assailant, who was described by police as being in his 30s, was found slumped on the back doorstep of the couple's house, removed four hours after the shooting, the Sun Times reported.

No charges have been filed against the homeowner, but Chicago currently has a statute outlawing the possession of handguns. Its legality is currently being decided by the U.S. Supreme Court.

A high-profile Chicago attorney has already stepped forward offering to represent the man pro bono if he faces charges for possessing a weapon.

"Self-defense isn't just a right, it's a duty," said attorney Joel Brodsky. "If this man is prosecuted for saving his own life it's not just a travesty, it's justice turned inside out."
This is to remind you of McDonald Vs. Chicago, now before the Supreme Court which would strike down the law which currently makes this 80 year old veteran a criminal in Chicago. Mayor Daley strongly endorses the handgun ban law in Chicago, evidently believing that honest citizens have no right to defend themselves against criminals. Also, this illustrates the need to ensure we have a Supreme Court which will endorse our individual rights in such cases. Hmmm....

New Obama Threat

Elana Kagan is the latest extreme Obama nominee to threaten our Constitution and Bill of Rights. She has repeatedly advocated being an activist judge and is often at odds with the First Amendment. Joined with rhetoric of the need to control the Internet and reintroduction of the so-called 'fairness doctrine' this is indeed alarming to a free people. And reminiscent of Moscow 1921, Berlin 1933, and Peking 1949. With quotes like:"It should be no surprise by now that many of the votes a Supreme Court justice casts have little to do with technical legal ability and much to do with conceptions of value," Kagan said in a review of Yale law professor Stephen Carter's book "The Confirmation Mess." and:Kagan quoted Carter approvingly to say that to decide the hard cases that rise to the level of Supreme Court review, justices must use their judgment. When they do that, Kagan said (again citing Carter), their "own experience and values become the most important data."

It may be hard to divine just what Kagan meant, but it's "not calling balls and strikes," says Georgetown University law professor Pamela Harris.
In handwritten notes that were among the thousands of pages of documents Kagan provided the Senate Judiciary Committee, she said judicial review "should be exercised w/ caution" because it involves overturning the actions of popularly elected officials.

Interpreting the Constitution is not mechanical, she said. If it were, it "wouldn't be issue," Kagan wrote in abbreviated notes.

Interpretation, Kagan said, "necessarily + inevitably" involves "political + policy questions."
These all point to phoning and emailing your state's US senators and urging them to NOT confirm Ms. Kagan to the Supreme Court of the United States of America.

Mama Grizzlies

Where are the men in the Republican party? It seems that the leadership of the Republican party is being taken over by the women of the party by necessity,i.e., The "Mama Grizzlies" referred to by Gov. Palin. We have Gov. Palin every where and calling the democrats on all of their anti-American rhetoric including boldly stating that Obama and the Democratic leadership would ban guns, ammunition, and gut the Second Amendment if given the chance. We have AZ Gov. Brewer signing an immigration enforcement law that should have been taken care of at federal level, but as the Fed has intentionally dropped the ball, the states are having to step up and handle it themselves. From MN we have Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann who has been a standard bearer for American citizens not just in Minnesota but throughout the country, and she is joined by Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee. These are the women of the Republican party and the American people. We need more like them and we need some men with their drive and leadership.

Illegal Aliens Amnesty

Amnesty Is Working Through Congress Again

Congress is once again trying to get the illegal aliens amnesty at US taxpayer expense, including gang members who ‘renounce’ gang membership. Some of the provisions that are being discussed are amnesty approval even without background check being completed, amnesty for previously exported illegal aliens, tax payer paid for lawyers for illegals, and illegals granted amnesty not having to pay back taxes owed the government. So, contact both of your state’s senators and all of your state’s representatives and state in very polite, but firm tones that you are opposed to amnesty for the illegals in this country and that we need to secure our borders from illegal aliens, drug smugglers, and other criminals crossing our southern border.

None Dare Call it Conspiracy

This is a very important book and I encourage you to read it. It was written and published in 1971 by Gary Allen. It is less than 200 pages but is crammed full of information. It can be read online at http://www.whale.to/b/allen_b1.html
I know it is dated, but so is the Constitution and it combined with the Bill of Rights and the Declaration of Independence are the most important documents in history since the Bible. Much of the info in NDCC you probably know but this is a concise compilation of info which can be effectively used to help enlighten others. It is also documented and documentable evidence of what has been done to our country over the past century. It is so important that after rereading it I decided to put it in both blogs. Read it and encourage others to read it as well.

Arizona and California

As Arizona bravely steps forward to enforce immigration laws, school administrations in California step toward banning the First Amendment. On 5 May some students at Live Oak High School wore t-shirts emblazoned with American flags and were told to remove them, turn them inside out, or leave. The school administrators did not want to "incite a confrontation". Wait a minute, this is the United States of America, not Mexico, and cinco de mayo is not a US holiday. It is not even the Mexican version of Independence Day, it is merely the anniversary of the Mexicans first victory over the occupying French. Big deal, who hasn't beaten the French? But I digress, the First Amendment protects the four students wearing American flag t-shirts, and youth should be encouraged to patriotism, not punished for it. These school administrators are typical of the government employees of the Socialist Republic of California and the entire government system of CA needs to be replaced. Meanwhile, San Francisco has had harsh words for Arizona for wanting to enforce the rule of law. That alone should end debate, when San Francisco is against something, then it must be the right thing to do.

Quoting

I know I have been doing a great deal of quoting lately, but sometimes you just get in a mental state that you do not know how to express what is going on. As I have said before, if a man in a clean silk suit stepped into a pig sty, the clean would not rub off on the sty...I may not be in a silk suit, but I don't think I am pig sty material either, and it seems as if I have fallen in head first. So, until I get my head clear, here is another quote:
"No matter what the cause, social collapse will bring out the worst in those who did not prepare. Everyone of us will transition through four stages to get the things we need. We will BEG. As simple as asking if someone might share with you their water, a little food or fuel to help you on your way. Next, when that fails, we will offer goods or services to BARTER for the things we need. During times of extreme adversity, moral constraints will slacken if not disappear all together. If our request is denied and no means of earning what we need is offered, we will STEAL what we believe we need. Perhaps this is beyond our thinking now but what would any of us do to provide life sustaining essentials for our children? In the final stage of desperation we will KILL to get what we believe we need to survive. We may not start out with intent to kill but we will do it if survival demands it.

This being the case with each of us, what would you expect from the unprepared masses who live among us? Those first three months after "the curtain comes down" will be something right out of a horror movie. It won't be safe to walk the streets during the daytime much less at night.

For prepared families during those critical three months, it is vital to not present yourself as having resources. Use blackout curtains over windows of any rooms that have lighting. Stay indoors and allow no "emissions," such as smoke, cooking odors, music or radio sounds. Don't hang wash on the line outdoors and bury garbage quietly at night.

It would be prudent to live on ready to eat foods that require no cooking for those first three months. Warming with hot water is OK but if something needs heating on the stove, put it in a zip-lock bag so cooking smells won't carry in the breeze.

We tend to look down on mobile homes as frail structural protection, but looters will tend to pass by mobile homes as less likely to contain what they are looking for. If there are no boats or trailers visible and clutter is spread all over the yard, it would appear that the home had already been looted.

The object is to attract no attention. You need to look poor and in as bad shape as everyone else.

This would be a very bad time to start running a generator, using an outdoor grill or practicing your marksmanship.

Your lifeboat can only carry as many people as you have prepared for. Attempting to rescue more people than you have resources, could cost the lives everyone in the boat.

Some unchangeable rules are:

1. You can't change what caused the catastrophe.

2. People may die because they failed to prepare.

3. You can't alter rule #2 but you can jeopardize your family by trying."
Just some words of wisdom, sometimes the obvious things are the ones overlooked.
