Return of the prophet Fred?

To hear Republicans around the country you would think that it was the return of The Messiah. At first, whispered, then shouted: "Fred Thompson may run for president." The would be followers of a maybe messiah should, perhaps, look before their leap of faith. Not even in the race and he is already in the thick of the three stooges, Rudi, Johnny, and Mitt. But being the best of the worst is hardly a sought after accolade. And already the prophet Fred has his detractors. Some of the Talibaptists not only question his position on 'moral social' issues(read abortion) they question his Christianity.
I prefer to look into his public relationship with The Constitution rather than his personal relationship with GOD. At best the prophet Fred is a moderate as was his mentor, Howard Baker, Jr. He has voted both for and against our constitutional rights(public record, first recommended stop Gunowners of America website, then link to presidential candidates). His endorsement of the McCain-Feingold Muzzle the Voters Act, AKA The Incumbant Protection Act, is not a stellar indication of his faith in nor support of the First Amendment. If Fred were to win the Republican nomination in this tepid primary race, his choice of running mate would determine if the general election would be a good fight or a slaughter. Choosing any of the three stooges would certainly cause many conservatives to sit this one out. If he chose Duncan Hunter or Ron Paul then the stakes would be raised and a clear line would be drawn in the sand between the Constitutionalists and the anti-Constitutionalist Democrat leadership. Politicians generally do not like to take a stand so I expect a soft whimper of surrender as Republicans lay down for the Democrats in '08.
